Evaluation of Music Questionnaire

I asked 10 females of around the ages 16-18 to fill my questionnaire in, as it is mainly a female based magazine however it may intrest some males, depending on the artist, the magazine would be featuring.   The favourite masthead for the magazine was 'iVIBE' with 8 votes, following VOLUME with 1 vote and Popshot with 1 vote. The slogan which had the most of the votes was 'Too Hot Too Handle' with 6 votes however i don't think this slogan matched the magazine i was creating as it didn't really apply to music, so the slogan i chose was 'Best for music news' as it was second favourite with 2 votes, tieing with 'Tune in and Turn it Up.' For the releasing of my music magazine 10 out of the 10 people would rather it to be released 'monthly' and the other 'weekly'. 8 people would prefer to see a girl band on the front of my magazine, with the other 2 wanting a solo artist, fortunatley a girl band was my main idea so that is what i think i will be using. The favourite colours that were chose to appear on the magazine cover was Pink and White tieing with Black and White, with the colour scheme i think i will decide on the colours to use when i have decided on the main image, so it mixes well. The stories that were chosen to be in the magazine as subsidary images were 'Latest Music Artists' and  'Music Gossip'. The amount that people would be willing to spend on my magazine would be £1.50-£2 which is a suitable amount to spend on a music magazine.

Music magazine covers that i like

I like this music magazine front cover because of the main image, I think it's really effective. The picture is positioned well on the centre of the page. The white background makes the main image more define as each of the girls are wearing colourful outfits which make them stand out on the page against the background. The masthead is very clear as it is bold and big on the front. There doesnt seem like there is too much going on, on the magazine but the image used and the positioning makes the magazine stand out and would attract really attract people to read the magazine.

This magazine cover stood out for me because it is seems to be very plain but works the magazine well. There isn't alot of colour on the magazine but each sell line and masthead is very clear to the reader. The positioning of eminem on the page is effective because he is the main focus of the magazine and he is positioned well as it fits the page perfectly. The pose he is doing gives personality to the magazine because it is clear to the reader he has 'attitude' and this may attract many readers to the magazine.

 This magazine is very eyecatching.
The pattern on the background surrouding the singer is very attractive and makes the page look busy. The masthead is a very bold pink which is stands out perfectly. The pose she is doing is also very effective because she is wearing eyecatching clothes which work well with the colours on the magazine. Each sell line is very bold and is easy to read, which i believe would make the reader want to pick it up and have a look.

Evaluation of School Magazine Front Cover

I am happy with how the final result of my school magazine front cover has turned out. The masthead suits the magazine and it is effective for the school and the effect i used on the word 'voice' to make it look like a loud voice gave my magazine a different edge. I also included a crown next to my masthead because it linked in with the 'king' henry theme. My main image is also very clear on the page and fits the page suitably, stands out to the reader and describes the headline well. I think the colours of my masthead used were effective as they stood out well.
However if i had the chance to change anything on my school magazine, I know i would take more time in taking suitable subsidary images with more effect as the ones i have used are quite boring and don't look very clear, i would perhaps take photos of certain clubs at the school taking place so it looks more intresting to the reader. I would place the subsidary images in a effective way on the page aswell because the two i used look boring at the bottom of my page.
The sell lines and straplines on my magazine are suitable as they describe exactly what is going on in every picture however perhaps i would of changed the colour of the sell line through the middle of the magazine 'sixth formers help year 7's settle in' to a more bold colour because the yellow writing seems eyecatching but from far away it is hard to read. I would of maybe positioned both straplines 'year 12 a* exam success' and 'contruction takes place' differently on the page because they are both exactly the same and don't seem to be very eyecatching. i would also improve on  making the page be a bit more full not just have the three main topics, Although i think i did well as it was my first time using a program i never used before to do my school magazine and i am proud of what i have achieved :)

Results Of Questionnaire.

The questionnaire was given out amongst 10 students of king henry viii school, all of different age ranges within my target audience as this gave suitable results for the school magazine.
The results from my questionnaire shows that the preferred masthead is 'Henry's Voice' with 6/10 votes. The second preferred being 'High Flyers with 3 votes and the remaining 2 votes for 'School Goss' from this i think the best one to use would be 'Henry's Voice' because it is most popular and more affective as it is more associated with our school. The favourite slogan was 'King Henry has spoken' and the second favourites being 'Bringing you the news of the school' and 'Top news bought to you.'
Most of the students are willing to pay between 50p-£1 for the magazine with only 2 students willing to pay from £1-£2. The top five topics that my target audience chose were clubs & activities, exam success, a problems page, upcoming events and sport competitions.'
For the images on my magazine front cover students likes the idea of there being a mixture of different aged pupils, school teams and pictures of activities taking place in the school therefore i could select one as a main image and use the remaining two as subsidary images.
Blue, black and white were the most popular colours for the magazines colour scheme but a couple of the students also chose yellow, being that they are the colours of the school i could use either or all the chosen colours.
